ABSTRACT

This chapter proposes a mutually sustaining relationship between conservation and creation in the realm of performance art, centering on Davide-Christelle Sanvee’s reperformance of Swiss performance artworks. It examines how reperformance can breathe life into previously performed works not despite but through allowing change. The author argues that reperformance is a vibrant method of preserving performance art, offering a fresh perspective on its history while staying true to the medium’s inherent dynamism. Change is not only a potential means of preservation but also of critical engagement with performance’s past.
