ABSTRACT
This chapter calls for action for philanthropists to increase their engagement with responsible AI (RAI), which is AI developed and deployed in socially responsible ways. First, the chapter identifies how philanthropists engage with AI in various roles – as grantmakers, users, developers, buyers, investors, and social justice advocates. Second, for each of these roles, the author explains how and why philanthropists can benefit from increasing their involvement with RAI and the negative consequences of failing to do so. Finally, the author suggests actions philanthropists can take across the different roles.
