ABSTRACT
Chapter 2, ‘The Great Decline’, describes the great acceleration of humanity’s impact on nature, and the uncomfortable distant origins as well as the recent drivers of our unsustainable and exploitative relationship with nature. It also discusses how the deteriorating state of the natural world is beginning to represent ‘The Great Threat’ to humanity’s present and future, including the unprecedented, terrifying danger of Earth system tipping points.
