ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the language and attitudes that dehumanize individuals with disabilities. The author elucidates methods used to justify ableist practices across spheres, ranging from micro-practices to accessibility issues. Evidence of discrimination permeates daily life, from refusing accommodations to assuming people desire to be "fixed". In education, ableist practices include segregating students, separate facilities and teachers, and narrow learning approaches. These biases hinder goals for education, employment, and engagement. The chapter examines the historical context of barriers and current practices perpetuating inequities. Recommendations and accessible resources foster inclusivity and dismantle systemic discrimination.
