ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a comprehensive overview of research on AI storytelling, highlighting its central themes and topics. It begins by examining theoretical perspectives on AI's storytelling capabilities and the expectations people hold for AI as storytellers. The chapter then reviews empirical studies that investigate whether audiences can distinguish between stories created by AI versus humans, and how stories attributed to AI differ from those attributed to humans in terms of narrative transportation, appreciation, enjoyment, and persuasive impact. The chapter concludes by discussing the limitations of current research and outlining potential directions for future exploration in this evolving field.
