ABSTRACT
This chapter explores issues relating to assessment in creative Technologies education, with particular attention being given to assessing the use of digital technologies for design. This includes, for instance, when students complete digital design assignments in design and technology, digital technology, and engineering subjects. First, the benefits of student-centred and authentic assessment are emphasised. The value of assessing the process and well as the product is highlighted. Prevailing methods for assessing creative technologies projects are considered, including the use of portfolios and ‘adaptive comparative judgement’. The use of assessment rubrics is discussed, and scaffolds for designing rubrics that assess creative technologies projects are provided. Issues relating to the use of technologies in assessment processes, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), are unpacked. Finally, assessment is positioned within the teaching and learning process, to help teachers successfully assess creative uses of technologies.
