ABSTRACT

Since their emergence from the Second World War, the Member States of the European Union have consistently supported a multilateral approach to global problems. From the first Earth Summit in 1972 in Stockholm, Europeans have been calling on the world to act together to halt and reverse environmental degradation. Climate change has emerged as the greatest of these challenges, for which there is no solution without international cooperation. For these reasons, European countries have worked hard to find coordinated solutions through the UN, including most recently through the Paris Agreement.
