ABSTRACT
Nature-based solutions are being integrated into policy and planning to address the interrelated challenges of climate crisis and biodiversity loss in urban areas, and effective implementation necessitates the consideration of justice and the involvement of diverse societal actors in co-creation. This chapter introduces a role-playing method that was applied in a real-world urban development case within an interdisciplinary master’s course focusing on nature-based solutions. The aim of the activity was to illustrate the complexity of participatory and co-creation processes in urban planning and to enhance students’ empathy and understanding of relevant diverse perspectives, values, and knowledge. This chapter presents a model for the role-playing method that can be adapted to various teaching contexts and implemented within a relatively short timeframe.
