ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the vocal narrative analytical framework, a multi-layered analytical model that integrates semantic and vocal analysis to examine how narrative meaning is shaped through both semantics and the acoustic dimensions of voice in journalistic stories in podcasts. Drawing on theories of narrative, sound, and vocal performance, it argues that voice should be approached not merely as a vehicle for semantic information but as a relational and affective medium that actively shapes narrative meaning. Through attention to prosody, materiality, subject positions, and performativity, the framework offers tools for analysing how meaning is shaped not only through what is said but through how it is voiced.
