ABSTRACT
Drawing from a review of recent literature on the theology of work, the author identifies four key contributions that this field can make at the present time: clarifying the definition of work, contextualizing work, integrating its dimensions, and challenging the current understanding and organization of work. This essay begins with an examination of the definition of work and then proceeds to explain the structure and content of the book. Mindful of the difficulties inherent in defining work, both theologically and generally, the author engages in dialogue with relevant works of authors such as Yves Simon, Cosden, or Volf. The author emphasizes the normative dimension of a theological definition of work and provides one. Next, the author presents the structure of the book, summarized as “context”, “integration”, and “challenge”, and introduces the contributions in this volume, which revolve around these three themes.
