ABSTRACT
The chapter presents a participatory research action with children from Greater Lisbon (Portugal), using a photovoice process. The aim is to discuss the use of this tool in fostering proximity between researchers and research subjects, in our case, children living in urban margins, for data collection in the context of the authors’ doctoral research in design and architecture. We describe how proximity emerged over the photovoice process implemented, aiming to highlight how proximity and collaboration between researchers and research subjects are urgent in these fields and present an opportunity to produce another knowledge about urban margins in order to (re)think them and to contribute to new approaches of intervention that promote the construction of more just and inclusive cities.
