ABSTRACT
Transdisciplinary research and practices are generally understood as a joint effort of scientific and non-scientific actors for societal problem-solving. As collaborations and partnerships between the public and private sectors, civil society organizations, academia and other actors can provide contextually sensitive and salient local solutions to pressing global challenges, transdisciplinarity plays a crucial role to accelerate progress towards all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Impact assessments of transdisciplinary research highlight the ability to provide a grounded understanding of the SDGs and their interconnections, to design, implement and leverage innovative policies and practices, and to build long-term individual and collective skills and capacities in the process, among other benefits. Key enablers for transdisciplinary approaches to address the SDGs include dedicated long-term resources beyond the scope of a project, commitments to disrupt disciplinary and sectoral silos, and genuine relationship-building between institutions and people who collaborate under conditions of structural inequalities.
