ABSTRACT
The ‘business sector’ includes for-profit and commercial enterprises or businesses, as well as business associations and coalitions, including cross-industry and industry-focused groups and initiatives. Private business activities, investments and innovations are major drivers of productivity, inclusive economic growth and job creation. However, overall, there has not been a rapid, broad and effective adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by business. The sector operates within the public policy environment and private governance structures but requires a different core purpose beyond economic growth and higher gross domestic product (GDP) for bridging to the SDGs.
