ABSTRACT
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a highly influential financial international organization that will be vital for the success of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While the IMF has been criticized by civil society actors for its negative impact on sustainable development, it is now focusing on supporting the SDGs. This support is particularly relevant when it comes to ensuring the necessary finance for achieving the SDGs. These efforts nonetheless remain circumscribed by the IMF's focus on economic growth and the disproportionate influence of the Global North countries in its governance structures.
