ABSTRACT
The scientific community is a necessary driver of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Within global sustainability governance, the scientific community is clustered in institutionalized groups that provide scientific evidence to both the United Nations system and its member states. In addition to collecting and synthesizing the current state of scientific knowledge, the scientific community engages in regulatory work by providing policy recommendations. This privileged position places it in a favourable position to govern transformations towards sustainable development.
