ABSTRACT

Resilience is the ability to adapt and recover from adversity, and experiencing failure is an essential part of this learning process. In other words, despite its negative connotations, failure can be a powerful tool for building resilience. Studies have shown that when individuals confront failure and learn to manage the associated shame, they can develop greater resilience. The experience of shame, particularly in the context of failure, is a pervasive and often debilitating phenomenon among university students. This emotion can significantly undermine self-worth, motivation, and mental health. However, recent research suggests that joy may serve as a powerful antidote to shame—encouraging unlearning and promoting well-being.
