ABSTRACT

Boring! Every journalist I spoke with during the Reagan-Mondale campaign felt that the 1984 presidential election was boring. Jack Germond and Jules Witcover sat down together in 1985 and actually wrote a 562-page book about how bored they had been the year before. They called their book Wake Us When It’s Over, 1 and frankly, it’s the longest book about somebody else’s boredom I ever plan on reading. As far as most journalists were concerned, we might all just as well have stayed in bed.
