ABSTRACT
A discussion between nonparallel disciplines, this chapter examines the crucial role of breast centers in providing comprehensive care for patients with breast diseases, including cancer, and the planning of engagement for these facilities beyond the traditional contexts of urban planning and architectural design. Emerging from the discussion of integrated medical practice, the dedication of space for expanding care beyond facilities, whether freestanding or within larger healthcare institutions, for doctors to increase patient engagement is the first step toward improving outcomes. Inspired by pioneering an inclusive approach to new models for engagement, the concepts address the challenges of fragmented care and diagnostic delays, favoring instead a prioritization of psychological comfort and efficient workflow to enhance the therapeutic alliance between patients and practitioners. The work argues that effective breast center design extends beyond clinical excellence, favoring instead a holistic patient experience that integrates art and communal spaces to foster emotional healing and resilience as much as complex treatments.
