ABSTRACT
This chapter analyses and explains current organised crime (OC) in Spain and serves as an introduction to OC as a theoretical contextualisation for the rest of the chapters of this book. Following this line of argument, this chapter focuses on those criminal areas that, due to their economic relevance and influence, can generate a systemic effect, both on OC and on the political and social scenario in the regions where the phenomenon is more established or at least more visible.
