ABSTRACT

In Pittsburgh, gross inequities exist for students in communities of color. The Justice Scholars Institute (JSI) is an equity-focused research-practice partnership using a collaborative approach to address inequities related to college access. Anchored in a dual credit approach, JSI partners with schools to provide advanced courses and a host of programmatic supports to students in underserved schools. In partnership with schools and a local education advocacy organization, this research initiative seeks to understand how a social justice-centered college preparatory partnership can address educational inequities experienced by Black communities. The case highlights intentionality in approach as a mechanism for equity work.
