ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the substantial role of philanthropy in international law, highlighting how philanthropic initiatives significantly influence the development, implementation, and enforcement of international legal norms. Philanthropic entities significantly influence the creation and support of legal norms, particularly in areas where state intervention is limited or premature. These organizations are instrumental in funding research, shaping policy, and advocating for the adoption of international treaties. Moreover, they facilitate the application of these norms by partnering with various stakeholders to ensure compliance and practical application. In the realm of dispute resolution, philanthropies enhance access to justice by supporting litigants, especially those without sufficient resources, thereby contributing to the development of legal precedents that shape international law. Overall, the article highlights how philanthropy acts as both a complement and a catalyst in the evolution and enforcement of international law, addressing gaps left by traditional state-centric approaches.
