ABSTRACT

The chapter discusses the topic of broadly understood training activities in the field of diversity and gender equality in academia. The first part focuses on a brief description of a wide range of approaches to DEI training, as well as an explanation of the most common topics and the range of problems that are particularly important from an equality perspective. Reference is made to basic subjects such as Gender Equality Plans, diversity, aggression, harassment, bias, and prejudice, and also to issues indirectly related to them, but important in terms of scientific excellence, such as increasing awareness connected to functioning in relationships, building satisfying bonds and interventions to set personal boundaries and take care of oneself. The second part highlights the role of the trainer in the process of implementing institutional change and during the development of training on a wide range of topics and for wide audiences. Emphasis is placed on how to work on awareness- and knowledge-raising among participants while at the same time giving space to build competencies and skills. In addition, we focus on actions that should be taken in order to bring about a real change in people’s attitudes and behaviour. Finally, we propose specific training methods, for example, tool coaching, which are useful in this area with particular attention to the group process and ways to avoid entering into psychological games.
