ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how St. Giovanni Bosco’s educational philosophy promotes peace as a foundation for justice. It examines his methods within the framework of education for peace (EFP), highlighting their relevance in addressing contemporary social issues and promoting harmonious coexistence. St. Giovanni Bosco (1815–1888), the creator of the preventive system, dedicated his life to the welfare of youth in Turin. As a young priest, he witnessed the challenges faced by juvenile delinquents in Turin’s prisons and felt compelled to intervene. He established oratories, vocational schools, and boarding facilities to provide marginalized youth with education, skills, and guidance. His approach combined cultural and religious values to foster personal and social development, aiming to prevent crime through education and moral upbringing.
