ABSTRACT

Cultural productions with Nikkei Australian themes are on the rise, with more artists and creatives identifying themselves as Nikkei or Japanese Australians. My own artworks and arts practice, along with those of my colleagues, are part of a creative cultural community and a social movement exploring a part of the Australian heritage which has mostly not been brought to light before and are reimagining histories of Japanese experiences and their stories which are specific to Australia. Many of the creatives are members of a community group called Nikkei Australia. Nikkei Australia is formed by a group of individuals who support members by sharing knowledge and resources and facilitate opportunities for creatives to present their creative work to become part of a wider social discourse.
