ABSTRACT
This edited volume explores the relationship between peacebuilding and resilience in preventing and countering violent extremism (VE) through case studies from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Amidst today's complexity, volatility, and unpredictability, the book emphasizes the importance of adopting holistic and adaptive approaches that address the underlying causes of violence rather than relying solely on security-focused responses. In this context, the book presents insights into the importance of combining security measures with community-based initiatives, such as promoting social cohesion, reducing poverty, and providing emotional support. It emphasizes the need to involve women, youth, and community leaders in prevention and peacebuilding initiatives and the need to support local communities through capacity-building programs and grassroots-level interventions focused on building trust and fostering inclusive dialogue to prevent radicalization. The book argues for a paradigm shift from excessive militarization to comprehensive and holistic approaches addressing root causes of violence and emphasizing context-specific programs, participatory processes, and sustained support for local communities.
