ABSTRACT

The banking industry is undergoing a significant transformation driven by new technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), which have an increasing impact on improving the functioning of banking institutions and their management systems. In recent years, there has also been increasing interest in the use of AI to solve significant environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges. This is consistent with the so-called AI for sustainable development concept, which assumes the use of AI to solve the world’s most challenging problems, such as climate change, social inequality, social exclusion, and all corporate governance issues. The aim of the chapter is to identify the possibilities for using AI in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the banking sector. The considerations will also serve as a reference point for a broader discussion on the digital transformation of the banking sector and its implementation of SDGs. The following research methods will be used in the chapter: critical literature studies, desk research method, observation method, document and secondary data analysis method, case study method as well as synthesis method.
