Introduction

This chapter introduces the book, outlining its content and aims: to share methodological knowledge, contribute to the understanding of displacement, gender, and the city, and reflect on the process of writing together. It provides an overview of the research on which the book is based, conducted collaboratively with 24 displaced women, and on the book itself, which integrates text with audio-visual material. The chapter addresses the challenges and opportunities of conducting research together when physical proximity is not possible, exploring the possibilities of hybrid research in a post-pandemic context – topics that are further developed in the subsequent chapters. Additionally, it situates our methodological approach, co-produced participatory action research, including emphasising our commitment to decolonial research practices and co-writing as fundamental elements of this book.
