ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the theme ‘Centrality of the Child and Child Well-Being’ at the intersections of biblical theology, liberationist principles and child rights. The significant principle of the centrality of the child is the child’s agency. While positing the understanding of the centrality of the child in the contexts of risks and vulnerabilities, the chapter argues that humanization of the child must be at the core of rooted solidarity of the church with children and also in our understandings of God and Christ. Only then does the agency of the child get advanced and affirmed. In the chapter, the Indian context of child sex abuse and its multiple cultural and legal manifestations are debated. The objective of the discussion is to understand the child as a whole person while there are constant attempts to undermine the child’s well-being.
