ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the long-term efficacy of policy reforms implemented in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on their impact on education. As the pandemic has been shown to have significant short-term impacts, many countries implemented policies to counteract the pandemic. Given the significant resources devoted to them, it is important to measure their impact in the long term. In this chapter, we outline various research methodologies that allow us to evaluate the long-term efficacy of the policy reforms. Moreover, we review different data sources, including survey and administrative data. The chapter concludes with several policy recommendations to enhance the long-term efficacy of educational reforms. These include establishing comprehensive data collection systems, designing targeted interventions for disadvantaged groups, leveraging technology for cost-effective solutions, engaging the private sector, investing in professional development for educators, and implementing robust frameworks for policy evaluation and adaptation. By adopting these recommendations, policymakers can support the recovery and resilience of education systems, addressing the persistent learning losses and socio-emotional challenges faced by students in the aftermath of the pandemic.
