ABSTRACT
This introduction provides an overview of the book’s thematic focus on the history of geosciences and knowledge. It discusses recent scholarship on the history of knowledge and sciences, the role of local actors in scientific endeavors, and highlights the contributions and mutual influences between scientific knowledge and local expertise. This thematic approach opens new perspectives on the history of Earth sciences, encouraging interdisciplinary research and broadening the understanding of knowledge production in different historical contexts.
