Introduction

In this chapter, the editors introduce and define the concept of ‘security cooperation’. They consider the drivers and practice of security cooperation in the Pacific Islands as it has evolved over recent decades. They then examine existing governance arrangements for security cooperation in the region and the ways in which doctrine around security cooperation has developed, with a particular focus on recent years. They conclude by providing an overview of the chapters that comprise this collection.
