ABSTRACT

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) are pivotal factors in shaping an inclusive environment within the realm of openness and Open Education. The adoption of EDI principles within openness supports Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) that meet the diverse needs of learners, fostering an environment where students feel welcomed, respected, and empowered to flourish. This aligns with UNESCO's Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4), advocating for a fair, diverse, and inclusive educational environment. This chapter explores three activities conducted in an exploratory research project, scrutinising EDI practices in various Global South contexts through interviews and workshops. Guidelines arising from these studies were presented in an international Bootcamp, gathering valuable feedback. Despite the implicit presence of EDI in Open Education discourses, the findings underscore the necessity to establish connections, recognition, and attentive listening to marginalised voices. The results contribute to shaping commitments and positively influencing higher education institutions, practitioners, and networks, especially in the Global South. While strides have been taken, continuous efforts are underway to integrate EDI into Open Education globally, in line with our commitment to openness and inclusivity.
