ABSTRACT

In today’s interconnected academic landscape, where global cooperation and rapid digitisation have become the norm, the protection and administration of IP are of paramount importance for ensuring the success of collaborative research and educational initiatives. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the legal frameworks that govern copyright within the context of academic partnerships, while also delving into the multifaceted challenges that arise from variations in national legislation and the often labyrinthine regulatory structures underpinning worldwide educational endeavours. By using insights from EU policy experiments, including findings from various Erasmus+ pilot projects and relevant Commission publications, this paper discusses the challenges and solutions for standardising IP management in different institutions. As a result, this discussion supports creating a unified EU framework to protect the rights of professors, students, and academic institutions while promoting innovation and global competitiveness in EU higher education.
