ABSTRACT
The aim of the chapter is to illustrate the conditions and forms of counteracting the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the urban cultural sector. This aim is achieved through a comparative analysis of the cultural policies of selected big cities in Poland, Czechia, Hungary, and Slovakia. Firstly, the analysis covers the level of strategic planning and the solutions adopted in the form of strategies, programs, plans, etc. Subsequently, the analysis focuses on the activities conducted by city offices, with particular emphasis on: (1) functioning of public cultural institutions and facilities, (2) organization of cultural events, and (3) conducting educational activities in the field of culture. The applied methodological approach (comparative analysis) allows for illustrating the trajectories of ‘fighting’ against the destructive impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the urban cultural sector, i.e., both during the pandemic period and post-pandemic recovery.
