ABSTRACT

Participatory budgeting is an effective tool that allows residents to directly select projects/initiatives for implementation in their city. The chapter seeks to explore the extent to which inhabitants are more inclined to propose and support projects related to green spaces within the urban landscape in the wake of a public health crisis such as the Covid-19 pandemic. First, the chapter introduces the concept of a green city based on a systematic review of extensive literature on the subject and specialist reports. However, the key discussion is in the that contains the results of quantitative and qualitative analyses of the projects submitted and selected in participatory budgeting proceedings. This study allows for answering the question of whether and, if so, to what extent the green city concept is a subject of real interest for city residents and, at the same time, the expression of their concern for green areas as conditions for ensuring mental and physical well-being.
