ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on youth participation in urban governance. The authors analyze the impact of the pandemic on the well-being of young people and their urban-level activities. The study is based on qualitative methodology, using semi-structured interviews conducted in 2022–2023 with urban politicians, administrators, teachers, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and youths. The chapter consists of several parts. In addition to an extensive literature review, which is crucial for understanding the idea of youth participation in urban governance, the authors present the methodological assumptions of the conducted analysis and discuss the obtained results. The research results indicate that the Covid-19 pandemic significantly limited youth engagement, disrupting their daily routines, educational experiences, social activism, and participation in urban governance. The pandemic also revealed a neglected approach by urban authorities toward youth's role in public life, limiting their right to participate. Additionally, the research outcomes underscore the need for intensified efforts to include youth in the post-pandemic reality.
