ABSTRACT
The unprecedented crisis, not only health-related but also political, social, and economic, caused by the spread of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, forced the municipal self-governments to take actions to counter its destructive consequences. The aim of this chapter is to illustrate the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on the functioning of municipal self-governments in the Visegrad Group (V4) countries. The chapter is of an introductory nature and systematizes the current state of research on this issue. First, the author presents selected but representative examples of the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on the functioning of municipal self-governments in the countries in question. Not only are the changes in the functioning of municipal offices discussed but also the challenges to the provision of municipal public services are addressed. The second part of the chapter focuses on the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus on the condition of the studied municipal self-governments in the post-pandemic period. The final part consists of an assessment of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on municipal self-governments in the V4 countries.
