ABSTRACT

The chapter focuses on the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources’ environmental communication during the first year of the war, the use of the Ukrainian pavilion at COP27 and the application of media diplomacy in times of crisis. The research uses both quantitative and qualitative content analysis, scrutinising materials from the Ministry’s website and international media articles during the COP27 period. The findings underscore the Ministry’s focus on environmental hazards, economic repercussions and the impacts of Russian aggression while highlighting proactive initiatives. Skilful collaboration with foreign media and effective use of the pavilion allowed the narrative of the war in Ukraine to be framed as a conflict with global implications.
