ABSTRACT
Chapter 5 explores budgetary frameworks and financial strategies essential for sustaining honors colleges. The chapter highlights the need for tailored approaches to strategic budget management by honors leaders. The role of the honors dean is emphasized as both an academic leader and a fiscal steward, responsible for aligning expenditures with strategic goals, advocating for resources, and ensuring financial sustainability. Several tools, including budget priority matrices, multiyear scenario planning, and collaborative financial decision-making, are presented to help honors leaders optimize operations and navigate complex budget environments. Effective financial management in honors colleges requires not only technical acumen but also storytelling, advocacy, and a culture of intentional resource use that aligns with institutional mission and values.
