ABSTRACT

The number of women holding deanships at business schools has grown and shifted from the days when women were most likely to be the wives of deans rather than the dean themselves (Amdam and Elias, 2021), however, women deans continue to be outnumbered by their male peers. AACSB (2024a) recently reported that 30% of deans at AACSB accredited schools were women (up from 17% in 2007-2008). Only 6% – or 831 – business schools worldwide are accredited by AACSB (AACSB, 2024b), and 68% of these schools are located in North America and Europe. Data from the Deloitte (2022) survey of women in the boardroom shows that the number of woman board members and CEOs in European and North American countries is higher than the global average.
