ABSTRACT
This paper results from a number of conversations and interactions between Howard and Anne over the last decade. It is not a comprehensive review of Anne's work (for that see Tsui, 2022b) but a story about an authentic and compassionate scholar with an overarching vision encompassed in a quote she draws from Albert Einstein, and shares often with students: “Concern from making life better for ordinary humans must be the chief objective of science. Never forget this when you are pondering over your diagrams and equations!”
