ABSTRACT

Data protection is an essential compass for the respect of fundamental values and rights in the digital age. The development and use of artificial intelligence tools should remain the result of human choices, which should be framed in accordance with the development of a digital humanism, allowing for a smoother digital transformation that serves the interests of humankind. The processing of the personal data of migrants and asylum seekers approaching the European Union's external borders offers a meaningful and instructive example of the central role of privacy and the protection of personal data to ultimately defend the dignity of vulnerable individuals.
