ABSTRACT

The Sex & History project has developed a research-informed methodology for using classical and other historical objects as a tool for teachers to generate open conversations with young people about relationships, emotions, sex and sexuality that encourage healthy sexual development. The founders and directors of the Sex & History project, Rebecca Langlands and Kate Fisher, shared their experiences and findings of how and why the method works with a 2017 Welsh Assembly expert panel tasked with informing the development of a new curriculum for Wales. The Sex & History method was taken up as an exemplar of the type of creative and cross-curricular approach to inform the development of the holistic and inclusive relationships and sex/sexuality education (RSE) curriculum in Wales that was implemented in 2022.
