ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the adoption patterns and impact of Generative AI (GenAI) in Romanian higher education institutions based on data from the 2024 International AI Survey led by the Institute for Adult Learning, Singapore University of Social Sciences. Using a cross-sectional survey analysis of 163 responses from Romanian educators, we examine current usage patterns, professional development needs, and institutional support for GenAI. Our findings reveal that 70% of Romanian educators have used GenAI tools at least once, and only 35% are active weekly users who integrate these tools into their workflow. Over 58% of Romanian participants report a moderate to high level of concern about data privacy and over-reliance on AI, suggesting an urgent need for professional development opportunities and institutional support. The study identifies specific challenges and opportunities in the Romanian context, thereby contributing to the broader international discourse on the integration of GenAI in educational contexts.
