ABSTRACT
Pathographies or narratives of illness are written testimonies of people who are sick. Duermo mucho [I sleep a lot], by Maria Manonelles Ribes, is a testimony developed like a graphic novel which portrays Manonelles’ stay in a psychiatric ward of a hospital. Drawing upon both humor and honesty, Manonelles describes her struggle with a personality disorder. This chapter explores various characteristics of pathographies as visual narratives and analyzes the cultural and social aspects in addition to the communicative strategies shown in the book.
