ABSTRACT

In this study, we examine the transformative potential of agri-tech interventions and institutional innovations in addressing key challenges in India’s agricultural sector. Drawing insights from diverse sources, it highlights the critical role of digital platforms, such as ITC’s e-Choupal, in empowering smallholder farmers, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and fostering rural development.

The review explores the evolution of agricultural marketing systems, the integration of ESG principles, and public–private partnerships in agribusiness development. Emphasis is placed on how farmers are impacted by climate change, institutional voids in emerging markets, and their experience of the interplay between technology adoption and rural livelihoods.

Additionally, our analysis sheds light on the significance of personalised extension services, co-creation models, and policy interventions in enhancing the profitability and resilience of India’s farming communities.

This study underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in transforming India’s agricultural landscape into a globally competitive and sustainable powerhouse, whilst promoting inclusive growth, by demonstrating how the workflows among diverse stakeholders are coordinated through tech-age institutions such as meta markets.
