ABSTRACT
What bolstered the identity of professional women in Scandinavia, particularly regarding their rights and opportunities to work and earn money on equal terms with men? The chapter explores Scandinavian responses to the transatlantic activism spearheaded by the National Federation of Business and Professional Women (NFBPW) from the United States during the interwar years. It examines the organizational and ideological ties of the American-born BPW movement, its successful spread to Norway and Sweden and how, before World War II, it invigorated feminism in Norway and Sweden more than in Denmark.
