ABSTRACT
Perhaps one of Bali's most well-known mask makers was a man named I Wayan Tangguh. He lived in the village of Singapadu and dedicated his life to the art of Topeng mask making. Despite his fame, very few people know about Tangguh's life and what inspired him. In this chapter I explore Tangguh's biography from a Balinese perspective, focusing not only on his creative genius but also on his engagements with Balinese artistic understandings and their religious underpinnings.
