ABSTRACT
The chapter explores the concept of “theatrical commons” within a value-based approach, focusing on how theatre, specifically opera, can function as a shared cultural resource. It critiques traditional economic models, moving beyond the market-state paradigm to instead consider the cultural and social values that underlie the commons. Drawing upon OperaCamion—a mobile opera initiative in Italy—as a case study, the chapter demonstrates how the project challenges conventional boundaries by virtue of transforming urban spaces and engaging local communities. OperaCamion exemplifies a value-based approach, underscoring the potential for culture to foster shared experiences and redefine accessibility. This model advocates for inclusive cultural policies that bridge social and cultural values, advancing both heritage preservation and contemporary innovation.
