ABSTRACT

Swiss journalistic media are far from exploiting their innovation potential. Reasons for this can be found at all three societal levels: current media policy decisions hinder any kind of state support to finance innovation in journalism, in large organizations or small start-ups; established media houses invest more in business diversification than in journalism developments; journalism’s professional attitudes and working conditions. Due to these structural framework conditions, the environment and preconditions for journalism innovation in the Swiss media landscape remain challenging.
